At Enigma, we believe in the capacity of travel to transform lives. We aim TO craft inspiring, extra-ordinary journeys through unique experiences that provide a genuine connection with the special people and places of Peru. Always with utmost respect and appreciation of Peru’s rich but sensitive natural, social and cultural environments.
‘Peru is so vast and rich. And it goes so beyond the Incas and Machupicchu: its desert, mountains, jungle, its people and living cultures, its diversity and heritage. It gets you out of your comfort zone, it challenges you, it opens your eyes and it transforms you. Sharing Peru with our guests is a responsibility and an honour, and respecting it for future generations to come, a fundamental must.’
THREE QUESTIONS WITH SILVIA
What inspired you to create your company?
‘I have had three main drivers. Firstly, my passion for travel. Born and raised in Europe, I am a daughter to a Spanish mom and a Bolivian dad, whose family moved to Peru over 50 years ago. Travel is in my veins.
Secondly, my love for Peru. When I arrived in this country, I simply couldn’t leave. I may be half Spanish but my soul is Peruvian. I feel totally inspired by this land and its people.
Finally, the will to simply take superb care of people. As a traveller myself, I have a clear idea of the service I expect and yet I feel there is an overall increasing lack of care and attention. At Enigma, we strive to provide that which we wish for in our own trips: we enjoy caring about people, understanding who they are, what they are looking for, what they expect and how to pamper them.’
Describe the most enriching family travel moment you have ever created or experienced
‘I feel blessed to have many in my memories. With my own kids, travelling in Africa – possibly our full day from Matthews Range into Lake Turkana and the Suguta and Logipi Valleys in Northern Kenya. A spontaneous deviation from our original itinerary as we met the right people, in the right place, and they were available to take us on the most amazing helicopter ride we’ve taken so far. The views, the nature, the remoteness, the wildlife, even the playlists in the heli! My kids were 10 and 8. It will remain in our hearts forever.’
What do you never travel without?
‘I always carry an alpaca or vicuña shawl with me – they are perfect for any occasion: a must in flights, warmers on early-morning drives and excursions, and a great (and chic) complement in social events too. Peruvian of course, they are the best!’
‘I believe we have Peru’s most dedicated and passionate team: from the office staff, to the carefully selected crew of guides and experts, the talented chefs and the friendly, hard-working and amazing team of porters. It is the human side of our team, their excellence, professionalism and their will to go the extra mile, that make our Peru journeys such unique and life- enriching experiences for our guests.’
