Alex’s love of travel started from a young age, revisiting places in Asia where her parents had lived. She worked for cazenove+loyd for 10 years, ultimately heading up their Asia and Middle East team for 5 years, before launching Wix Squared in 2017. She lives in Marrakech and takes frequent visits to Asia in search of new experiences, accommodation, and guides.

“The bigger the challenge the better! Be it private access to the ruins of Angkor, discovering uncharted waters in Raja Ampat or making Father Christmas appear on water-skis!”

 THREE QUESTIONS WITH alex

What is your favourite childhood travel memory?

“Probably not my favourite, but definitely my most vivid travel memory, was staying in the mountains outside Guilin in a local village house surrounded by tarantulas that had cobwebbed over every window in the middle of a thunderstorm. The experience was like no other but the memories of the hospitable and delightful homeowners helping me get over my fear has stayed with me forever.”

What small things make a big difference to the client experience?

“In this industry, attention to detail is essential. We ensure we have allocated the best guides appropriate to our clients’ age and interests, the best located rooms, the best located plane seats, the best vehicles, and the best drivers. And for any clients travelling to Morocco, I meet them personally and treat them to a mint-tea or sundowner in one of my favourite locations.”

What is the best piece of advice you've been given for your business?

“Always be honest. Things go wrong when travelling but research a solution before you inform your guests that there is a problem.”

“When I launched Wix Squared, I did so with the offering of ‘mystery travel’. This was for guests that simply didn’t have the time to plan a trip of a lifetime or for those who have a love of the unknown. All our trips involve little surprises (be it a bottle of their favourite tipple, a beautiful coffee table book on local culture, a surprise Buddhist blessing) but the reality of ‘mystery travel’ has taken this to the next level.”
