The Himalaya have long held the imagination of the world as its last untouched place and a repository of redemptive power and wisdom. At Beyul Experiences we specialize in curating experiential travel to these sacred destinations of Nepal and our ethos of compassion and curiosity runs through every itinerary we craft.
“We take great care to be responsible on how visitors engage with various elements in and around the country. We want to create a healthy ecosystem of exchange and learning between the visited and the visitors we host from around the world.”
THREE QUESTIONS WITH ANG
Where is your favourite place in Nepal and why?
“I have many but to choose one i’d say Mustang in west Nepal. It is regarded as the last forbidden kingdom high up in the mountains. The Upper Mustang region is considered to be home to one of the best-preserved Tibetan buddhist cultures in the world and its walled city of Lo Manthang, the capital, house a dense labyrinth of whitewashed mud and brick buildings, several ancient monasteries, royal palaces, and art galleries to marvel at. The fragile existence and impermanent nature of this culture being so close to Tibet (now China) makes it always very powerful to visit.”
What do you never travel without?
“One thing I never travel without is my sungdi - a thin Tibetan string given by Sang Sang Rinpoche, a Buddhist monk. One wears it with the belief that it provides an unlimited source of strength, luck and protection. I have on me all the time.
Another would be my trainers: every place I visit I love to walk as much as I can but I can’t do it without a comfortable pair of shoes so I always make sure to pack one.”
What is next for your company?
“The inspiration behind our work has been to share the countless hidden valleys and communities in the Himalayas with our visitors but above all our aim is to bring forth a positive change in Nepali tourism by reorienting the focus and putting the wellbeing of the locals and our heritage at the forefront. In a way do what tourism did for Nepal some 50 years back- lift communities and the entire country from deep poverty, improving livelihood, providing new opportunities, education and healthcare.”
“As Nepal is often marked as a “Budget” destination, almost all local travel companies focus only on the popular destinations and selling the same product over and over again, ignoring the countless possibilities of experiences filled with amazing people, culture, rich traditions and landscapes. Our aim at Beyul Experiences is to reveal these hidden destinations, creating a truly one off experiences, and at the same time inspiring a paradigm shift in Nepal’s travel industry.”
